All About Me...

My name is Ali Khalifa and I live in the United Arab Emirates. I'm also a student in the Higher Colleges of Technology here in Abu Dhabi Which Is the Capital As Well. In this semester Feb-June 2007 we have a project which is about Global Warming. And we were told to make a page in blogger.com to in light people and make them start believe that they could do something for their planet.

Therefore, I will do my best to collect all the information that are related to the global warming subject. Finally, I hope everyone likes my blog and keeps track with it.

The most important Causes..

I've done my research to find the main problems that are causing global warming, and I have reduced it to three problems.

The most important point is pollution. To explain, huge cloud of smokes that are caused from the factories. Side by side with greenhouses gases, both goes up to the atmosphere layer and they block the sun rays that want to leave the earth.

Another cause is the overpopulation. In just one generation the population was increased from 2.6 to 9.1 billion. More people need more energy which will lead to the emission of CO2.

Finally, the risen of sea level due to the melting of the north and south Antarctic, will affect the areas near the coasts.

The Economy Factor..

Rich countries only consider the economy. They do whatever they can just to get rich. Even more, they destroy the environment by cutting down the forests to get wood. But what they forget is that in the absence of those trees the CO2 emission will increase sharply.

In addition to that the big companies of producing electricity don’t want to change their system to green power or any other natural resources. Another important point is that developed countries have many factories that cause extreme pollution by ignoring the consequences of their actions.

Effects..

As the earth temperature goes up, many effects might occur.

The first thing you must consider is the melting of the North and South Pole which is caused by the greenhouses' gas. Subsequently, the sea level will increase dramatically, threatening the coastal area from drowning. Countries such as: Netherlands, Norway, China will disappear forever.

Moreover, animals – penguin, white bear and seal - that live in Antarctica will be facing extinction after the melt down of the ice. Because of the rising temperature of the ocean, some kinds of sea life are on the edge of extinction because of losing their natural habitat.

Main Effect..

The most important effect of global warming is the increase annual average temperature worldwide. This phenomenon is known as the greenhouse effect.

Greenhouse effect is simply the attitude of our atmosphere that became like a glass shield allowing heat to enter and not allowing it to go out. So basically we are living in a planet that is getting hotter and hotter.

Statistics says that the temperature has sharply risen more than any other time in the last ten years. Even more, the climate has been changing too, affecting the powerless creatures. In addition, tornado and hurricanes are occurring around the world more often.

UAE and Global Warming..

Under the serious effects of Global worming on both the environment and human beings, UAE is taking careful steps in order to avoid the most dangerous influences caused by temperature increasing.

Firstly, our country held an environmental conference to discuss and come up with new solutions to decrease the level of emission, especially in acid areas. Because the renewable recourses are the best solution to provide the country with clean and friendly environment, the conference focused on elucidating the importance of renewable resources such solar and wind energy.

Therefore, the 29th Tree Planting Week was held before couple of months and the government has distributed plants and trees to the local people. Furthermore, Dubai government implemented intelligent devices to detect the level of CO2 gas that comes out from vehicles.

Individual actions..

In spite of the rapid changing in our planet, we still can help to stop this crisis. First of all, recycling and reusing your household waste can save thousands of CO2. Even more, we can clean the earth atmosphere from CO2 by planting a lot of trees. Another point, which most people overlook, is turning off electronic devises instead of keeping them in standby mode. Furthermore, you can save energy by using less hot water and using a florescent light bulb instead of a regular light bulb. Ultimately, carpooling, walking and riding a bicycle should reduce the level of CO2 in the air.

What I have learned from this project...

This project was really interesting and has a lot of benefit. Actually, the benefit of this project was beyond discription. I have learned a lot of precious information about global worming and other related topics such as - pollution population and their effects as well-.

Moreover, this project gave us the opportunity to express our opinions about one of the most challenging issues in this century. Besides I've earn new skills in searching in the internet and the college library and how to make a webpage. I hope that people, who only think about economy, could imagine the risk they are exposing the environment to. I would also thank my teacher Ms. Molly for her big efforts on helping me to make this webpage.
